People and the planet we inhabit exist in a delicate balance. Environmental health refers broadly to the interdisciplinary study of how these relationships between people and planet shape human health and disease outcomes throughout the life course. Where we live, work, and play, the air we breathe, and even the food we eat are all crucial and modifiable determinants of health.
Environmental Health introduces students to new ways of understanding and studying neighborhood and the built environment as a social determinant of human health and disease. The readings, discussions, and case studies throughout this course build a conceptual and applied understanding how human activity has shaped the environment, which in turn shapes human health.
